Ames Directs Ray Brown JR’s

Friends and Family Making of

Alan Ames has been hired to direct the “Making Of” documentary of Ray Brown JR’s latest CD entitled, “Friends and Family” for SRI Records.  SRI Records, a subsidiary of SRI Entertainment headed by veteran producer Shelly Liebowitz, has amassed some of the finest jazz and R&B talent available for this one of a kind “Duets” project.  Artists include: Dr. John, Maria Muldaur, Paul Williams, Dione Warwick, Sophie B. Hawkins, David “Fathead” Newman, Terry Gibbs, Melba Moore, Freda Payne, Dr. Lonnie Smith, James Moody, Sally Kellerman and many others.

The documentary, shot over a two month period in the Spring of 2008, will be release later this year in promotion of the album.  Of special note is the fact that the Global “GREEN” piano manufactured by Gibson/Baldwin  and donated to Global Green US to be auctioned off for charity with the funds raised earmarked for the “Green” rebuilding of the infamous 9th Ward in New Orleans.

The 9th Ward, was the home of “Fats” Domino and numerous other musical notables, was destroyed during hurricane Katrina, and is now being rebuilt  with the help of numerous organizations nation-wide.

The “GREEN” piano was performed on by “Fats” and fellow New Orleanean Art Neville during the 2007 Jazz Heritage Festival and then autographed.  The piano was then made available for the “Friends and Family” recording sessions and autographed by the featured performers on the album.

The Piano currently resides at the Four Seasons Hotel in Agoura Hills, CA while the auction is being prepared.

“This is an amazing project,” Ames said, “The talent amassed by Shelly Liebowitz for the recording sessions were of unparalleled stature.  It was like walking in a garden of the some of the greatest talent of the 20th century.”
